In Sir Lowry’s Pass, South Africa, many children grow up under difficult circumstances. Poverty, unemployment, and a lack of opportunities often shape their daily lives. After school, there are very few safe places where they can play, learn, or simply be children.

The Christian organization His Ark SA supports these children through after-school care, mentoring, homework assistance, and food support. Every week we reach many children who would otherwise spend much of their time on the streets.

A big dream is already starting to take shape:

The football goals are already in place on the field. Even without nets, our football coaches are already training with the children regularly. The excitement is huge – but everyone is looking forward to playing under better and safer conditions soon.

Our goal is to build a safe football field that will be much more than just a sports ground. It will be a place where children can experience community, learn discipline, build confidence, and discover new hope.

With our own football field we can:

• offer structured sports programs
• keep children off the streets
• strengthen teamwork and social skills
• integrate mentoring and values into sports
• create a positive meeting place for the whole community

There is already a water source on the property. Drilling was carried out to determine the available quantity. To make the water usable, pipelines and a wastewater tank were installed to collect and store it. A water filter purifies the water, which is then stored as drinking-quality water in a fresh water tank.

A pipe system ensures a reliable water supply for the children’s shelter – even during times of water scarcity.

By using our own water, ongoing costs can be reduced.

Children in difficult family situations need a safe place, which H.I.S.A.R.K. can supply in the safe house for children. The project is based on voluntary and positive cooperation between H.I.S.A.R.K. and the families. The parents will retain custody and the familial bond will be strengthened by visits from the parents and outside help for the families. Depending on the family situation and difficulties the duration of a child’s stay at the safe house will vary.
